KENYA RANKED 2ND BEST COUNTRY TO DO BUSINESS IN AFRICA BY PATIENCE SAMBA Kenya has been ranked the second best country to do business in Africa, celebrated just after South Africa, according to the latest Business Insider Africa rankings, a milestone hailed as a proud moment for Kenya by Eng. John Kipchumba Tanui, CBS, Principal Secretary for ICT and Digital Economy. The ranking highlights growing investor confidence in Kenya’s business environment, policy reforms, and economic resilience, with strong progress in ICT and digital innovation, renewable energy, manufacturing, agribusiness, financial services, and infrastructure development. Under the government’s Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda, Kenya continues to position itself as a regional hub for trade, investment, and technology, expected to boost key sectors and attract global investors.

LEARNERS ON MID-TERM HOLIDAY AMID ONGOING HEAVY RAINS BY PATIENCE SAMBA Learners across Kenya are on mid-term holiday as heavy rains continue to affect several parts of the country, including the Coast, Rift Valley, Central Highlands, and Western regions. The rains pose risks such as flooding, slippery roads, and the spread of waterborne diseases, which could affect pupils and students during the break. Teachers are using the holiday period to mark exams, prepare lessons, and plan for the rest of the term, while parents and guardians are encouraged to closely monitor their children, as failure to take good care of them could expose learners to accidents, illness, or dangerous situations during the mid-term break.

IRREGULARITIES IN TALANTA STADIUM PROJECT PUT KENYANS AT RISK OF DELAYS AND FINANCIAL LOSSES BY PATIENCE SAMBA  Kenyans are set to face delays in completing the Talanta Stadium, loss of jobs, wasted public funds, and fewer opportunities to promote sports and nurture local talents after Auditor General Nancy Gathungu revealed serious irregularities in the project. The audit found that Sh10.85 billion of the Sh45.85 billion contract cannot be accounted for. It also showed that the cost rose from the originally approved Sh35 billion without explanation, the open tender process was bypassed, and mandatory Attorney General approval was not sought, raising concerns over transparency and proper management of public funds.

KENYA MET DEPARTMENT WARNS OF HEAVY RAINS UNTIL FEBRUARY 25 BY PATIENCE SAMBA  The Kenya Meteorological Department has warned that moderate to heavy rains are expected to continue across several parts of the country until 25th February 2026, with the most intense rainfall likely between 22nd and 24th February. In an advisory issued on 20th February, the department said some areas could receive more than 30 millimetres of rain within 24 hours, increasing the risk of flooding and flash floods. Regions expected to be affected include the Lake Victoria Basin, the Rift Valley, central highlands, southeastern lowlands and the coastal region, with counties such as Migori, Nyamira, Bungoma, Kakamega, Embu, Murang’a, Nyeri, Tharaka-Nithi, Kisii, Narok, Kajiado, Makueni, Machakos, Nairobi, Kericho, Bomet, Taita Taveta, Kitui, Kwale, Mombasa and parts of Kilifi listed. The project aims to boost food security, increase incomes, create jobs, and improve livelihoods through sustainable fish and crab farming. The Dabaso Creek Conservation Group has expanded its crab farming from 300 cages to 1,225 cages, while the Ihaleni Kakuluni Conservation Group has constructed two modern fishponds and adopted improved practices to increase milkfish production. NATION MEDIA GROUP CLOSES ITS BIGGEST REGIONAL NEWSROOM BY PATIENCE SAMBA  Nation Media Group, Kenya’s leading newspaper company, has closed its Mombasa regional newsroom, the first major office to be shut down as part of a restructuring plan to cut costs. The closure, starting in March 2026, will affect journalists, marketing staff, and other employees who work at the coastal office. The company has been facing financial challenges, including falling revenues and reduced advertising income due to competition from digital media platforms. Mombasa is NMG’s largest regional bureau, and more regional newsrooms, including Kisumu, Nakuru, Nyeri, and Eldoret, are set to be closed.

LENACAPAVIR INJECTION ARRIVES IN KENYA TO BOOST HIV PREVENTION BY PATIENCE SAMBA Kenyans are expected to benefit from the new HIV prevention injection Lenacapavir, which is given twice a year and provides protection for up to six months, making it easier for people to stay safe without taking daily pills. The Ministry of Health says the drug will be rolled out in phases starting in March 2026 in counties including Mombasa, Nairobi, Kisumu, Homa Bay, and Kilifi. Health experts believe Lenacapavir will help reduce new HIV infections, especially among young people, couples where one partner has HIV, and other high risk groups. With more than one million people currently living with HIV in Kenya, officials say the injection will strengthen prevention efforts and support the country’s goal of ending HIV as a public health threat, while still working alongside existing methods such as testing, treatment, and condom use.

RESIDENTS OF TAVETA CELEBRATE FREE SECONDARY EDUCATION BY PATIENCE SAMBA  Residents of Taveta in Taita Taveta County are rejoicing as education in the area becomes more accessible, with all day secondary schools declared free and boarding students required to pay only Sh5,000. The announcement by Taveta MP John Okano Bwire assures that in 2026 no parent will have to pay fees, highlighting that education is the key to a student’s future, and he urged parents not to stop pregnant students from going to school.
