TAITA TAVETA LAUNCHES 16 DAYS AGAINST GBV
BY PATIENCE SAMBA
The launch of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender Based Violence is currently underway at the Werugha Multipurpose Hall, with residents already benefiting from on site awareness sessions and community engagement activities.
The event, organized by the County Government of Taita Taveta through the Department of Youth Affairs, Sports, Gender and Social Services, aims to equip community members with practical knowledge on how to prevent, identify, and report GBV both offline and in the digital space.
As the event progresses, residents are receiving guidance from gender experts, counsellors and legal officers on how to access support services. Survivors are being connected to help desks offering counselling, referrals, and information on safe spaces available within the county.
Youth and community groups are also being trained on responsible digital behaviour and how to stay safe online, in line with this year’s theme focused on ending digital violence. Parents and guardians are learning how to protect children from online exploitation and harmful content.
The ongoing activities are strengthening community participation, improving reporting mechanisms, and empowering residents to take an active stand against GBV. Organizers say the event marks an important step towards building a safer environment for women and girls across Taita Taveta County.
